About

Founded by Giovanna Fazzuoli & Giulia Magno,
Black Box is a Rome-based collective dedicated
to programming international experimental films
and curating exhibitions exploring the shifting
boundaries between cinema and the visual arts.
Their first curation has centered on Chantal Akerman,
for whom a complete retrospective was given at MAXXI (2017) culminating in an exhibition of her
moving image installation Une voix dans le désert
in collaboration with Marian Goodman Gallery
at the Santa Maria della Scala Museum, Siena.
Since then, they curated several exhibitions and
screening programmes –– devoted, among the others,
to Stan Brakhage, Ursula Mayer, Abbas Kiarostami,
Pier Paolo Pasolini, Ming Wong, Luis Buñuel and
Man Ray –– in several museums across Italy.
